Lockdown Home Grooming Tips
Bathing our pets isn't as easy as we thought but if you follow these top tips from John Paul Pet you can be sure bath time will become a breeze & your pet pooches & kitties will be squeaky clean without the fuss!
THE BATHING BASICS
*Brush your pet before bathing to remove tangles, dirt, debris & shedding hair.
*Reduce your pets anxiety during bathing by placing a towel on the bottom of the tub or sink to muffle the sound of the water spraying & to also prevent slipping.
*Pre-treat areas on your pet by applying shampoo directly onto dry fur. This will help make dirt stick to the shampoo before washing & rinsing.
*Keep water out of the ears by placing cotton balls just under the ear flaps or have your pet wear a hoodie.
*Use warm water to bathe your pet. Not as warm as we like our bath water but not too cold as pets do not like cold water.
*Calm pets by starting at the tail & moving forward wetting down & lathering the coat.
*Often cats don't like being sprayed with water so try using a water-less shampoo such as a foam based shampoo.
*Be sure to use a tear-less shampoo on the face area to prevent eye irritation & rinse thoroughly.
*Use a conditioner after shampooing even on very oily coats to return moisture to the skin & coat.
*After massaging your favourite conditioner into your pets coat, lock in moisture by rinsing with cool water (not cold).
*Be sure to rinse out shampoo & conditioner thoroughly as they will attract dirt & can cause irritation & flaking if left in & on the coat.
*Towel dry your pet until their coat is just damp.
*If your pet will tolerate the sound of a hair dryer use on NO or LOW heat, moving quickly over the coat avoiding ears and face while running a brush through the fur.
