When it comes to hairbrushes there are all sorts of different shapes and sizes designed with different goals in mind depending on what your hair-care goals are. Often people over-look the importance of using the right brush and rather focus on styling tools such as straighteners, curling wands, etc. when the correct brush can be just as important. Here at Born Hair Care we find our most popular range of brushes by far is the Kent Salon range which is a particular favourite of salon professionals due to the reliable results they provide combined with ergonomic handles.
Kent Salon offer four different categories of brushes with different options within each one. The four groups are: Cushion & Paddle Brushes, Styling & Detail Brushes, Ceramics and Curling/Straightening Brushes.
Cushion & Paddle Brushes
These are the classic category of brushes with a short handle and over-sized head which is designed with the intent of giving improved control and movement to allow you to have full confidence when working through the hair. The various paddle brushes offer different styles of quills, some with fine ball ended quills which are intended for grooming and straightening, while the fat rounded quills excel at de-tangling and brushing through wet/damp hair. Two narrower paddle brushes are also available if you have shorter hair.
Styling & Detail Brushes
This category of brush is great for volumising, grooming and reducing the time that blow drying takes. KS04 is great for picking up and sectioning hair as well as creating huge volume from back-combing in longer styles. The vents featured in some of these brushes are ideal for blow drying as the allow the air to reach the hair from all angles while brushing unlike a brush with a completely covered back. Featuring natural boar bristles and moulded pins for an improved finish.
These brushes feature ceramic coated bristles which are great for either straightening or curling and come in a variety of sizes to suit all hair lengths. They heat up quick with an even heat distribution which allows for your styling to be quicker and more accurate. These brushes feature nylon tufts that will grip the hair for as long as required and release without any snagging occurring.
These feature more pronounced rows of heat proof nylon bristles to help lift and release the hair which makes straightening or curling much easier. These leave you with a shiny and silky look and provides a much easier option than traditional styling tools - they can of course also be used in tandem with more traditional styling tools. If curling, remember the smaller the brush, the tighter the curls will be. Don't forget that over-drying is one of the main culprits of hair damage - don't overdo it, we'd recommend drying your hair about 80% so it still appears wet but has lost some of the water as when the hair is completely soaked it is weaker, fragile and therefore more susceptible to breakage.
Satin pillows can help reduce the amount of tangles you wake up to in a morning!
Boar bristles distribute healthy oils throughout the hair making them great for a healthy-looking shine
The range features extra-long and extra-short models so very short/long hair isn't a problem regardless of how big or small you desire your curls to be.
Brushes won't work as effectively when filled with hair and/or residue - give your brushes a good clean out every week or two!
Brushing your tresses regularly will stimulate the blood flow in your scalp which ensures sebaceous glands remain stimulated meaning natural oils are being produced which help keep your hair in healthy condition.
If bristles become worn or broken, consider a replacement as this can cause split-ends.
Over-brushing can have the opposite effect to that you desire causing breakage and split-ends - try to avoid brushing any more than twice a day.
Ever hear a ripping sound when brushing your hair? This is because of breakage and likely means you're being too forceful.
